Margaret Crawford Harris of Decatur, Georgia, died Tuesday, April 5, 2005. A native Atlantan, she was the daughter of Hugh Crawford and Marion Bell Crawford, both of whom immigrated to the United States from Scotland. Peggy, as she was known to her many friends, grew up on Crumley Street in downtown Atlanta and attended Commercial High School. As a young girl, her best friend was the daughter of a funeral home owner and Peggy was known to regale her grandchildren with tales of playing hide and seek in the family's place of business. After her marriage, she moved to the newly-developed Winnona Park area of Decatur, where she raised five wonderful sons and was a charter member in a women's bridge club that met for over 50 years. Always fun-loving and a quick wit, Peggy was much loved by her family and friends, and was treasured by her sons and grandchildren, who fondly remember her welcoming smile, adventurous spirit, and fondness for ice cream and anything chocolate. Even into her later years, Peggy was a delight to be with and expressed keen interest in the lives and interests of each of her grandchildren. Peggy is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Williams Harris, by her much-loved sisters, Marion Crawford Peek and Jean Crawford Jones; and by her grandson, Rick Harris. She is survived by a family that will miss her greatly: her sons, Charles Williams Harris, Jr., Hugh Crawford Harris, John Royal Harris, Robert James Harris, and Thomas Alexander Harris, and their wives; and her grandchildren, to whom she was lovingly known as "Meme": Kelly, Ryan, Jeremy, Will, Jody, Wendy, Laura, Scott, Mary, Paul, Jodi, and Jami; and her 11 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons at 11 a.m. Friday, April 8th, Rev. Paul Rider officiating. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery. Those desiring may send contributions in her memory to American Cancer Society, David M. Zacks Patient Navigator Program, 2200 Lake Blvd., NE, Atlanta, GA 30319. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 7th, at A. S. Turner & Sons.
