Margaret Dellinger Stone

August 3, 1924 — April 19, 2017

Margaret Dellinger Stone passed peacefully in her home April 18, 2017, following a short illness. Margaret was 92 years of age and active until the last 5 months. She was surrounded by the love of her family.

Margaret was born in North Carolina to the late James and Lucy Dellinger. She had a sister, Frances D. Dean and a brother, Jimmie Dellinger and his wife, Jean, both from North Carolina. Margaret also had three step siblings: the late Bo Staton and his wife, Fay, the late Mary Gladis Morgan and her husband, Malvern, and Janie Allen; and half brother, Jesse Marion Staton. Margaret and her siblings lived with their grandparents, Marion and Nancy Sherril on their farm where she learned to cook, sew, tend a farm and care for her grandmother until she graduated from Mt. Holly High School.

During WWII, Margaret traveled across the US to marry J. C. Stone (deceased), who was in the Navy stationed in San Francisco, California. Following the war the couple returned to NC and lived in Charlotte. While in Charlotte they had three children, John Cannon Stone, Jr. (deceased), Sally (Jerry) Brantley and Marsha Hibbard, both of Atlanta. She has 7 grandchildren: Paige (Fred) Pearson, Auburn, AL; Kim (Brian) Dyer, Gray, GA; Amy (Henry) Adderley, Bermuda; Cannon (Leslie) Stone, Waxaw, NC; Allison (Jeff) Moncrief, Swannee, GA; Adam Brantley, Atlanta, GA.; and Wesley, Stone, Auburn, AL. Margaret was blessed with 17 great grandchildren: Raleigh Dyer, Kennedie Dyer, Hadley Dyer, Banks Dyer, Stone Pearson, Max Pearson, Taite Pearson, Vann Pearson, Jack Adderley, Margaret Adderley, Morgan Moncrief, Jake Moncrief, Abbie Moncrief, Ava Moncrief, Cannon Stone, IV, Cooper Stone, and Carsen Stone. Everyone loves their Nana and will miss her.

J. C. and Margaret moved to Atlanta in 1956. After being a homemaker and property manager for Cannon Farm, she became a Kindergarten Teacher at Clairmont Hills Baptist Church for over 20 years. She helped many children begin their education and moving on to achievement. After retiring Margaret and her sister, Frances, began sewing and making craft items to sell. Everyone loved their handwork and many still wear the items she sold. She continued this endeavor until she became 90 years old.

Family, cooking, gardening and sewing were Margaret's passions. She loved to prepare for her family to visit and was known for her fried chicken, pound cake, and chocolate sheet cake plus many delicious meals. Everyone received hugs and kisses and food to take home.

Oak Grove Methodist has been her home church since 1957. Mararet loved to help with the BBQ in the fall, attend circle and UMW meetings as well as going to Sunday School and church services. There was always time to visit with friends and talk after the service.

"Miss" Margaret was loved by many and will be missed. She had a strong faith in God and shared her love with others. The Stone Family appreciates your love and concern during her illness.
