Margaret (Peg) Lincoln Hummel

July 28, 1914 — July 23, 2008

Margaret (Peg) Lincoln Hummel of Decatur, GA died July 23, 2008. She was born in Bristol, CT on July 28, 1914, daughter of the late James Francis and Alice Smythe Lincoln originally of County Waterford, Ireland. She enlisted in the WAVES during World War II in May 1943 and served as a radio operator in New Orleans until her honorable discharge in November 1945. Peg married James Franklin Hummel, Jr. in 1946 and they lived together in Connecticut and Maine until his death in December, 2001. She relocated to Georgia in 2003 to be near her daughter, Susan Phillips, and Susan's partner, Nancy Wilkinson, whom she loved as a second daughter. Peg enjoyed all sports, especially baseball (both the Braves and Red Sox) and tennis; she said her great love of sports came from being the only girl in a family of four brothers. She was very fond of all of her granddogs, especially English Springer Spaniel Hank, a great source of entertainment for her. Survivors include daughter, Susan of Decatur; son, Franklin Hummel of Boston, MA; brother, James E. Lincoln of Bristol, CT; and numerous nieces and nephews. A private memorial will be held, and the cremated remains will be interred at a later date in Wells, ME to join those of her late husband. Memorial contributions may be made to English Springer Rescue America, Inc. at 2721 Walker Lee Drive, Los Alamitos, CA 90720-4935. A. S. Turner & Sons
