Margaret Simpson Mann

Margaret Simpson Mann of Rockdale County died Monday, December 31 at age 94 of complications from a fall in October. Born in Clarkston, GA to Lula (Weems) and Homer Simpson, she graduated from Avondale High School where she starred in basketball. After graduation she worked at Southern Bakery where she met her husband, J.J. Mann. From the 1950s to the 1980s Margaret and J.J. operated 3 different businesses, Ideal Bakery in Griffin, GA, Jiffy Grocery in East Atlanta, and Country Acres mobile home park in Newton County. At the same time they raised a family of four children. In retirement Margaret enjoyed traveling and her many activities at Union United Methodist. Her husband, Captain James John Mann of the Atlanta Fire Department, and their oldest daughter, Joyce Clement preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Janet Mann (husband, Wesley Puckett); sons, John (wife, Phyllis) and Jim (wife, Marilyn); son-in-law, Jeff Clement; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Though she did a great many things in a long life, Margaret always said her greatest accomplishment was her family. As a result of her devotion to her family, her grandchildren will remember her for the years of mini-van adventures, homemade birthday cakes, and weekends in the country. Her funeral will be held in the chapel at A. S. Turner and Sons at 11 AM on Thursday, January 3rd . In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Union United Methodist Church in Stockbridge. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 2nd between 2 and 4 PM and later between 6 and 8 PM at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory, Decatur.
