Margie Ann Slade

Margie Ann Slade (Johnson), 87 of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully from natural causes on July 25, 2020. She was born June 18, 1933 in Littleton, North Carolina to the late Tommie and Elizabeth Johnson. Margie attended and graduated from Eastman high school and North Carolina Central University. Margie moved to Baltimore for employment opportunities. She had multiple jobs until she obtained her dream job at the Social Security Administration as a Claims Authorizer of which she worked more than 30 years. Margie married Major Raleigh Slade of Raleigh, North Carolina in 1958 and of this union 3 daughters were born, Sheila, Joy and Crystal. Margie was a great cook and she loved making her specialty, mac and cheese for family gatherings. She grew up on her family's farm, so of course she was a gardener/farmer and she inspired her daughters to do the same with annual visits to the farm. She loved playing Pinochle with her siblings since childhood. As an adult, she loved traveling to Atlantic City with her siblings every year. She loved music, and always took her daughters to concerts, ballets, operas and theater and she inspired her girls to take piano lessons and to go to Peabody Conservatory of Music Preparatory Department. Margie loved taking all 3 daughters to the annual city and state fairs. Margie was a member of the Democratic National Committee, Blacks in Government - Greater Baltimore Chapter, NAACP, and the National Association of Retired Federal Workers.
Margie is survived by her 3 daughters Sheila Slade-Lee, Joy Slade and Crystal Slade, 4 grandsons Eduardo Slade Faria, Emanuel Slade Faria , Sebastian Slade-Lee and Elon Slade Faria. She is also survived by Eva Jones is her last surviving sibling, cousins and a host on nieces, nephews and friends. Services will be on August 1, 2020 in Atlanta, Georgia, however, they are private due to CoVid19 pandemic. To attend remotely, the service will be live streamed by A. S. Turner and Son Funeral Home.
