Margorie Miller Winkler

Marjorie Miller Winkler, age 99, died peacefully July 7, 2011, at her home, the Montclair, in Decatur, Georgia. She was born on May 24, 1912, in Brewton, Alabama, to George and Leona Miller. She had four brothers and one sister, all now deceased. She attended Hollins College and Montevallo College. In 1935, she married Joseph August Winkler, Sr., who was a safety engineer with the American Mutual Liability Insurance Company. They settled in Decatur, Georgia, in 1952. They were active members of the Decatur First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Paty Sunday School Class and served in many offices of the United Methodist Women. As a member of Druid Hills Country Club, she was an avid golfer. She was a volunteer in the gift shop of Emory University Hospital for more than thirty years. After moving to Clairmont Place, she enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Susan Winkler, Atlanta; her daughter, Claire Winkler, Greenville, SC; her grandchildren, Joe Winkler (Kathy), Alpharetta; Clay Winkler (Kathleen), Auburn, Ga; Tom Winkler (Claire), Norcross; Lee Geddie (Kim), Greenville, SC; Kathy McCall (Rodney), Greenville, SC; great grandchildren, Brittany, Isiah, and Jessica Winkler; Gray and Kate Geddie; Julia and Ella McCall. She is also survived by her loving caregiver and companion, Annette Mills. Memorial services will be held Sunday, July 10, at 2:30 pm at Clairmont Place, 1800 Clairmont Lake, Decatur. Burial will be in Greenville, Alabama, on Monday July 11, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to Decatur First United Methodist Church, 300 E Ponce de Leon Ave, Decatur, 30030, or the charity of one's choice.
