Marguerite Bond died Tuesday evening, September 20, 2011, at Hospice Atlanta. She was educated at the University of Alabama, BS Art in Education, University of Florida, MEd in Counseling, and University of Georgia, SpEd in School Psychology. She came to Atlanta to work at Emory after she earned her Masters Degree. She worked for DeKalb County Schools for 33 years as Counselor at Clarkston High School. She enjoyed bridge, art, and travel. She was a Fulbright Scholar in India, 1982, and Brazil, 1978. In 1977, she received a Partner's of the Americas grant to travel, lecture, and gather materials in the field of education. She was Volunteer of the Year at Villa International in 1991. She received the Women's Chamber of Commerce nomination for the Governor's International Award. In 1992 she received a grant from the Georgia State Department of Education to work and study in Lower Saxony Germany. She was on the Board of Directors and Vice President of the Partners of the Americas 1975-81. She traveled to over 60 countries including opening programs for the Friendship Force and Partner's of the Americas. She is survived by her brother, William Edwards Bond and his wife Maxine Bond, her nephew, Chance Bond, and niece, Emily Norwood, great niece, Haley Norwood, and great nephew, Wesley Norwood. Her extended family includes several chosen children and friends including Jason Yu and Yilee Chang, Tekle, Yonas, and Ester Ghebretnsae, Monica and Kevin Ho, Lynn Baker, Sun Elizabeth and Bobby Lang, Godfrey and Alison Augustine, Sharon Bridwell Leed, and Carol Fisher and Will Pleace. Grandchildren include Christy and Claire Chang, Joseph Lang, Dylan, Erin Marguerite and Chloe Ho, Jennifer Pleace, and Allison and Ryan Nugyen. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 24, 2011, at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of AS Turner and Sons. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice Atlanta.
