Hornsby, Marguerite Born
Marguerite Born Hornsby, 88, of Atlanta, a devoted wife and mother, passed away September 21, 2014. Born in Atlanta, Georgia on November 9, 1925, to Mary and Julius Born, she was the eldest of three children and grew up in the Grant Park area. She attended Girls High School (1943) and was graduated from Agnes Scott with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and Psychology in 1947. She was married for fifty years to the late George C. Hornsby from Roanoke Alabama, a graduate of Auburn University, and became a diehard War Eagle fan. She is survived by her two sons, James and John; two daughter-in-laws, Genny and Virginia; three devoted grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Hornsby, Stanford Hornsby and Mary Shelton Hornsby; a loving brother and sister-in-law, James and Maureen Born; a sister, the late Mary Kitchens; and many loving nieces and nephews. Marguerite was an avid volunteer for many years with the Pink Lady Aids at the DeKalb General Hospital, the American Red Cross Blood Drive, and Meals On Wheels. She was also an active member of Briarcliff United Methodist Church for over fifty years.The family would like to thank Holly Moraes, Melinda Stimpson, Teresa Moore, and Evelyn Williams, LPN, for all the love and care they provided to our mother in her last years. In addition, the family wishes to express its sincerest appreciation for the embracing love and prayerful support of the Pastoral Care Ministry of the Cathedral Church of the Advent in Birmingham, Alabama, subsequent to her moving to Birmingham. The family will receive friends and family, Thursday, September 25th, at Briarcliff United Methodist Church, 4105 Briarcliff Road N. E., Atlanta, GA 30345, from 12:00 noon till 1:30 p.m. The service will commence at 1:30 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Westview Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, we would ask for contributions to Meals On Wheels Atlanta.
