Marie Rutland Topple died Tuesday, March 4, 2008 following several years of declining health. She was 95 years old. She was predeceased by her first husband Guy Walter Rutland Jr., by her second husband Craig Topple, and by her son John Thomas Rutland. Marie was born in Charlotte, N.C., spent her childhood years in
Cordele, GA, before moving to Decatur. She was a graduate of Girls' High at Decatur High School and Agnes Scott College. She was very involved in the First Baptist Church of Decatur serving as a Sunday School teacher, WMU Director, Circle Chairman, and Deacon. She also served on the Board of Trustees of the Georgia Baptist Children's Home. In the community she was a member of the Junior League of DeKalb County, D. A. R., and active in the Agnes Scott Club. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She is survived by sons, Guy Rutland III and wife Linda, Bob Rutland and wife Cherry; daughter, Susan McCullar and husband Tony. She was the proud grandmother of Chris Berry, Guy Rutland IV, David Rutland, Bret Rutland, Summer Boslaugh, Dawn Trygg, Shelly Hall, Carie Cordero, Robert McCullar, and Mary Alice Boulware. She was proud of her 17 great grandchildren as well. Her funeral will be Saturday, March 8th at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Decatur. Interment Decatur Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Decatur Foundation. Visitation will be Friday, March 7th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at A. S. Turner & Sons.
