Marie Theresa Dipaola

Marie DiPaola came into this world the daughter of Joseph and Adele DeLuca on 11-28-1925. She lived a full life of 89 years until her passing on 7-11-2015. She and her sister Kay, along with six other brothers grew up in Brooklyn, New York. She attended Brooklyn College where she majored in Spanish. She then attended New York University, where she majored in Spanish and Education. She married Anthony M. DiPaola in 1950, and the couple moved to Georgia settling in Fairburn. Marie initially took a position at the Atlanta Public Library, but soon became a Spanish teacher at South Fulton High School. She continued teaching Spanish at Cross Keys High, eventually taking the same position at Lakeside High.

She attained many honors through teaching, including Star Teacher and Teacher of the Year for DeKalb County. Marie also became an active member of various professional teaching organizations, including The American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portugese, the Foreign Language Association of Georgia, the Professional Association of Georgia Educators, the DeKalb Association of Educators, and the Beta Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International Society of Women Educators.

Marie's hobbies included gardening, woodcarving and collecting angels. Her passion in life though revolved around her church. She began attending Saint Joseph's Maronite Catholic Church in the mid 1960's, and continued to do so up until the end of her life. She taught Sunday School for many years at the church, and participated in many of the church's groups and organizations.

She is survived by sons Joe and Tony, and grandson Dominic. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that a donation be made to Saint Joseph's Maronite Catholic Church 502 Seminole Avenue N.E Atlanta, GA. 30307. Mass held at Saint Joseph's Maronite Catholic Church at 10 AM Thursday 7-16-2015, followed by graveside services at noon on 7-16-2015 at Fairview Cemetery 376 Fairview Rd. Stockbridge, GA. 30281. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm Wednesday 7-15-2015 at A.S. Turner and Sons 2773 N. Decatur Rd. Decatur, GA.
