Marilyn Shaw Langley “Momma”
Marilyn Shaw Langley, who loved to be called “Momma” by her kids, departed her loving family on February 10, 2022.
Marilyn was born in Decatur, Ga on March 30,1944 to Margaret and Herman Shaw.
Marilyn was mother to Charles Langley Jr and Michelle Cheek and mother-in-law to James Cheek. She raised her children with love and devotion in Scottdale, Ga with her husband Charles Langley Sr.
As a School Crossing Guard, Bank Teller, Hotel Clerk and a Demo person at Sam’s Club, Marilyn was known for her kind smile, willingness to help others, her humor and her ability to sell anything from demos as Sam’s to BBQ Chicken plates at church. Her hobbies included shopping at thrift stores, going out to eat and especially singing in the church choir. She was most proud of her volunteer work with ALS Association, Susan G Komen and helping at Avondale Pattillo UMC with anything she was asked.
She is survived by her children, Charles Langley Jr, Michelle Cheek and James Cheek. She is also survived by her sister-in law Avis Shaw.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband Charles Langley Sr, her parents Margaret and Herman Shaw, her siblings Margaret Shaw, Carlton Shaw, William “Billy” Shaw, Sylvia Hill and David Shaw and nieces Avis Marie Shaw and Carla Persaud who loved and knew her as Aunt Marilyn.
A Family Farewell will be at A S Turner’s and Sons Funeral Home on Friday, February 11, 2022 from 12:00-1:00.
Visitation will be held at Avondale Pattillo United Methodist Church (3260 Covington Highway, Decatur, GA 30032) on Sunday, February 13, 2022 from 2 until 3 p.m. with a Celebration of Life Service in the church sanctuary beginning at 3 p.m.
