Marion Marshall (Dick) Ausburn

April 30, 1921 — May 3, 2005

Mr. Dick Ausburn of Avondale Estates died May 3, 2005. He was born in Scottdale, Georgia, the son of Claude and Eddie Lou Ausburn. He was a World War II veteran, a member of the 473rd Infantry Division, and served in North Africa and Italy. He was wounded in action while in Italy and later received the Purple Heart. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service, and retired after 30 years of service. He was actively involved in North Clarendon Baptist Church for many years. A man after God's own heart, he became an ordained Southern Baptist minister in 1994, and spent his remaining years ministering in prisons and nursing homes. He was involved in the Ray Maddox Prison Ministry, Saints Alive Choir of Avondale First Baptist Church, and served faithfully in a nursing home ministry where he preached and led singing for the residents. At the time of his death, he was a member of People's Baptist Church in Tucker. Described by all who knew him as a kind man with a servant heart and a quick wit, Dick loved his family and his church and spent his life helping others. He was a jovial man who loved to tell jokes, loved to fish and loved to work with his hands. He crafted swings and stepstools for countless people, often quoting from Psalm 99:5, "Exalt the Lord our God; bow in worship at His footstool, for He is holy." His life was a living testimony to a loving God. He was preceded in death by his son Ronald. He is survived by his wife Ruth, son Marshall and wife Lynda, granddaughters Amy Anthony, Angela Smith, Stephanie Ausburn, four great grandsons, and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 5, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, 2773 North Decatur Road, Decatur, Georgia, with Dr. Vern Coolidge officiating. Interment will follow at Melwood Cemetery. A. S. Turner & Sons
