Marion Milton Pierson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away on March 28, 2018 at the age of 90.
Marion is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Eugenia Pierson, and their 3 children, Marilyn Kay (Benny), Elaine Gwin (Steve), Todd Pierson (Nancy); 7 Grandchildren: Alex Kay, Brian Kay, Justin Gwin (Joanna), Whitney Eager (Jared), Jesse Gwin, Vivian Johnson-Pierson, Roland Johnson-Pierson; one great grandchild, Bryson Eager; and one beloved dog Vincent. He was preceded in death by his brother Lee Pierson, and sister-in-law, Mary Jean Pierson from Athens, Ga.
After attending Emory University where he received his Bachelor of Arts in 1949 and a Bachelor of Divinity in 1951, Rev. Pierson was ordained in the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church as clergy in full connection in 1953. His ministry included numerous United Methodist congregations, Winters Chapel in Doraville, St. John in August, Newton Estates in College Park, Forest Park, LaFayette First, East Point First, Newnan First and Dalton First, before becoming a District Superintendent, first of the Atlanta-Marietta District and then to the Atlanta-College Park District. He also served as the Executive Director of Simpsonwood Conference and Retreat Center. During his years in active ministry, Rev. Pierson served as chairman of the conference Board of Christian Social Concerns and the conference Council on Ministries, as well as president of the North Georgia Cabinet. He was elected multiple times as a delegate to both General and Jurisdictional Conferences.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 31, at A.S. Turner Funeral Home in Decatur, Georgia. The visitation at 1:00p and the worship service will follow at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to make a donation to Aldersgate/Collinswood at www.aldersgatehomes.com.
