Marion Patricia Chapman

March 17, 1920 — July 16, 2021

Marion Patricia Chapman passed away on July 16, 2021 at the age of 101. Her life story is one of generosity and devotion to family and friends. She was loved greatly by many, and will be sorely missed.
Marion was born and lived for 36 years in Lyndhurst, New Jersey. She was very close to her family throughout her life, admired both of her parents, Louis and Edna Favier, and was exceptionally close to her sister, also named Edna.
She spent much of the summers as a teen and well into her eighties at the New Jersey shore, where her father had built several homes which the family lived in or rented out. She enjoyed socializing with friends on the beach and was a graceful swimmer.
At Lyndhurst High School she was a cheerleader, and was named both most popular and best looking by her classmates. She was one of a few local women awarded a scholarship, and attended Douglass College for two years, before transferring to Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School, which afforded better job opportunities for a woman. She worked as a secretary for several firms in New York City.
Marion dated Stanley Chapman, a high school classmate and the President of her high school class. After Stanley returned from service in WWII, they were married in 1947, during one of the worst blizzards in New Jersey history. She gave birth to twin sons in 1949, and remained a dedicated homemaker thereafter. Her husband died of cancer in 1983, and Marion remained a widow thereafter.
Marion was always devoted to her family, including her sons, grandchildren, and, eventually, great-grandchildren. She reveled in their achievements and was always available to provide comfort, support, and advice. Following the death of her husband, Marion lived independently by herself until 2017, when she suffered a bad fall. As a result, she moved from Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, to Dunwoody, Georgia, where she resided in assisted living at Brighton Gardens assisted living until her death.
Marion also was always outgoing and generous, and made numerous friends. She had a superb memory, and took great interest in family members’ and friends’ activities. She remained remarkably sharp until her death, following current and family events, playing bridge, and solving cryptograms.
She is survived by her two sons, Robert and Stanley and their respective spouses, Andrea Chapman and Arlene Koumjian. She has four grandchildren, Kathleen Hartnett (with her husband, Mark, in Brookhaven, Georgia), Daniel Chapman (with his wife Justine in Canton, Georgia), Colleen Chapman (Markdorf, Germany) and Scott Chapman (with his wife Robin in Zephyrhills, Florida). She also has seven great-grandchildren, Audrey, Natalie, Clara, Fiona, Luke, Anna Kate, and Nicholas.
An invitation only memorial service will be held.
