Marion Willoughby Ingalls, 90, of Decatur passed away, Monday, December 12, 2016. Marion is predeceased by her husband, Foster Kinne Ingalls and is survived by her son, Clyde (& Betsy) Ingalls and daughter, Daire Miller; her sister, Laura Higgins; her grandchildren, Jeff (& Heather) Miller, Rose (& Jeff) Parker, Clayton (& Teresa) Ingalls and Chase Ingalls and great-grandchildren, Cooper, Autumn, Audrey, Kaitlyn, Foster, Joshua, Asher and Madison. Born September 17, 1926 in Jackson, Mississippi, Marion attended Duke University and graduated in 1947 with a B.A. Degree in American Literature. She married Foster Ingalls of Englewood, New Jersey, a fellow Duke alumni, in May 1949. Together they lived in Englewood, Atlanta, Jackson and Hammond, Louisiana before settling in Decatur in 1949. A lifelong Methodist, Marion was active in Decatur First United Methodist Church and was a member of the Fellowship Class. She taught Sunday school to all ages, leading UMW and other Bible studies and participating in leadership of the Worship and other church committees. With her children grown, Marion began a twenty year career as a teacher's assistant in DeKalb County schools, following her love of children and her lifelong passion for literature and learning. Marion instilled a love of reading in the lives of countless children, ending her career at Laurel Ridge Elementary. An accomplished pianist, Marion shared her love of music with family and friends, playing accompaniment for the Fellowship Class and other productions. She volunteered as prompter for several drama productions and is remembered fondly for her role as "Mom" in the church WDFUMC RADIO show. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 13 at Decatur First United Methodist Church with Dr. David Jones officiating, with interment to follow at Decatur Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, Decatur, GA
