Marjorie Norman Parker

November 9, 1926 — February 10, 2017

Marjorie Norman Parker, 90, of Atlanta, GA, passed away and was eternally healed on February 10, 2017, after a long respiratory illness. Marge was born at home to the late Walter Edgar Norman and Geneva Robertson Norman on November 9, 1926 in Atlanta, GA. She grew up in the Grant Park area and was raised by her two aunts, grandmother and great-grandmother during the Depression. Her favorite early Atlanta memory included meeting and getting kissed on the cheek by Clark Gable while visiting the Cyclorama. She attended Commercial High School and was runner-up in the Miss Atlanta pageant. After meeting her husband, Roger W. Parker, Sr., while working at Kress' in downtown Atlanta, they married on Christmas Eve of 1943, prior to his World War II service in the Marines. During their longtime marriage, they enjoyed a successful business career together in home-building, residential real estate, managing apartments and running grocery stores. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger W. Parker, Sr., in 2004. As a believer in Christ, she grew up attending Park Avenue Baptist Church, as well as Cascade Baptist Church and then became a longtime member of Peachtree Baptist Church. More recently she was a member of Briarlake Baptist Church. She lived out her faith daily by practicing the commandment of love and hospitality. Over the years, she welcomed over 37 young adults to live in her home as she enjoyed investing in the lives of young people. She loved to read and was a life-long learner, using her worldwide travels as opportunities to continue to learn, volunteer and spend time with her grandchildren. Marge made the most out of life by serving and loving others well and her unique wit, humor and care continued to the end. Marge is survived by her three children, daughter Elaine Parker Bernard, Roger Will Parker, Jr. and his wife, Tricia, Mark A. Parker and his wife, Susie; grandchildren, Sean Bernard and his wife Cami, Louis Bernard and his wife Leigh, and Katherine Parker, Roger Parker III and his wife Jessica, David Parker and his wife, Kristen, Katie Beall and her husband David, Mark A. Parker II and his wife Whitney, and Molly Parker; great-grandchildren, Marilyn Bernard, Lucas and London Bernard, Quinn Parker, Cole and Ella Parker, Logan, Jacelyn and Alexander Parker,. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Edgar Norman and Doug Norman, as well as her grandson, Andy Norman Parker. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 12, from 6-8pm and the Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, at 10am, at A.S. Turner and Sons. The service will be officiated by Marge's former houseguest and Chaplain Major Lyde C. Andrews, U.S. Army. Burial will follow at Arlington Cemetery in Sandy Springs, GA. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the Atlanta Mission, P.O.
