Our beloved Mark Lamar Senterfeit of Decatur, GA passed away at home on July 25, 2022, at the age of 62.
Mark was born on January 5, 1960 in Aiken, SC to George and Janice (“Bootsie”) Senterfeit. The youngest of three children, he grew up in Charleston, SC. As a child and throughout his younger years, Mark was noted for his athletic ability. While attending Middleton High School in West Ashley, he was a standout player on the football and baseball teams. After graduating high school, Mark attended Newberry College in Newberry, SC on a baseball scholarship. Mark worked in the insurance industry for over 35 years and was looking forward to his upcoming retirement and the adventures that would follow.
On November 22, 2008, he married Lisa Ann Slappey of Decatur, GA. Mark was fiercely devoted to Lisa, and loved her profoundly.
A dedicated husband, son, brother, and proud stepfather, Mark was also an animal lover and an accomplished photographer. He had a particular affinity for wildlife, namely bears and bison, and traveled with his wife Lisa to photograph them in the wild. He was an athlete with the superhuman ability to destroy a Lay-Z-Boy chair every three years without fail. He was a faithful Christian and an avid reader. When he wasn’t traveling with Lisa, he enjoyed weightlifting, rock and roll, online shopping, Gamecock football, and a good bourbon. He will be remembered for his irreverent sense of humor, his storytelling, his serial killer-style handwriting, and his larger-than-life (and somewhat salty) personality.
Mark is survived by his wife Lisa; his stepchildren Alexis, Alaina, and Jacob; mother Janice; brother Glen (Sandra); brother-in-law Stewart Mills; nephew Captain Patrick Ryan Mills; and his beloved pets: Doobie and Percy. He was preceded in death by his father, George; his sister, Peggy Senterfeit Mills; and his dear aunt, Dorothy Brown.
A memorial service will be held at Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Decatur, GA on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 11:00am. Prior to the service the family invites friends for visitation at 10:00am. Following the service there will be a private reception for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions to one of the charities that Mark supported during his lifetime would be appreciated.
