Mark Marlow Godwin passed from this life Sunday August 13, 2017. He was attended by his brother, Chuck Godwin and daughter, Jessica Godwin during his final hours. Mark was born September 12, 1959 in Atlanta, Georgia and attended Valdosta High School where he was a member of the national championship marching band program at VHS under the direction of Frank Butenschon. He was long term employee of Alabama Industrial Development Training Corporation as a Network Administrator, assisting in the launching of new business enterprises opening in the state of Alabama. Mark was a professional trumpet player in his early years. He toured in Europe playing big band jazz sponsored by the U.S. State Department in Romania and Bulgaria. He was a songwriter and trumpet and flugelhorn player and vocalist in the vibrant music scene in Huntsville, Alabama of the late 1970's, playing live and recording in studios from Huntsville to the group Alabama's recording studios in Fort Payne Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil Judson Godwin and Henrietta Marlow Godwin. He is survived by his daughter Jessica Lynn Godwin of Huntsville, Alabama and brother, Charles Judson Godwin of Florence, Alabama. The family would like to thank the marvelous RN and CNA staff of the Huntsville Hospital Coronary Care Unit and the 7th Floor for their compassion and caring of their patient and family during this difficult time. There will be a celebration of his life with live music in Huntsville, AL that will be announced at a later date. The family will receive visitors at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur, Georgia on Saturday August 19, 2017 from 11-1PM EST with a graveside service at Westview Cemetery at 2 PM EST. A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home
