Ms. Martha Ellen Rivers died 23 July 2004 in a local hospital following an extended illness. Ms, Rivers was born in McComb, Pike County, Mississippi 6 July 1930 and was the daughter of Edward Jones Rivers and Polly Ard Rivers. She was the niece of the late Mathews Ard of Brookhaven. She was predeceased by a sister, Polly Ard Hammond. She is survived by a sister, Juanita Stevens (David) of Macon, Georgia; nieces, Daphne Stevens and Kathy Hammond; nephews, David Stevens, Jr., Richard Stevens, and Karl Hammond; and great nieces and nephews, Carson Leegate, avid Stevens,III, Elizabeth Stevens and Taylor Stevens. Ms. Rivers was a graduate of McComb, Mississippi High School and attended Milsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. She lived briefly in Houston, Texas and moved to Atlanta in 1959. She resided at the Ivys Condominiums in Atlanta. Ms. Rivers was retired from a civil service career with the State of Georgia where she was employed by the Department of Transportation and other State Agencies. Arrangements will be handled by A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home of Decatur. Visitation will be at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, 25 July, and the memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be in Brookhaven, Mississippi at 2 PM CDT Wednesday, July 28. A. S.
