Martha Louise Rooks Wood Jones, 104, died October 6, 2020, at Emory Wesley Woods Towers in Atlanta, GA. Born in Carroll County, GA, she was the daughter of Thomas Jefferson Rooks and Floye Cartwright Rooks. Her deep Christian faith directed her daily activities. She loved people and gave a big smile and a wonderful welcome to all she met.
She is survived by daughter, Phyllis Wood Mann (husband Ben), of Pickens, SC, and sons Wally Wood and Mike Wood, of Raleigh, NC. Also surviving her are five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of fifty-eight years, Wallace Eugene Wood; her second husband, Ralph Stuart Jones; and her daughter, Annette Wood Eidson. Although she was the oldest child, she outlived her siblings: Estelle Rooks Wynn, Thomas Milton Rooks, Ruth Rooks Lamar, and Robert Benjamin Rooks.
Taught by her father, who played a pump organ for all-day singings, she played the piano well, with hymns being her favorites. Even in her eighties she was an active choir member of Embry Hills United Methodist Church. At Wesley Woods she sang in their choir and served as choir director.
Special thanks to Annie Brown and Dorothy Best who made her life safer and happier in her last years, also special friends Alice Robinson and Jonnie Johnston. The family is grateful for the loving caregivers and staff at Wesley Woods Towers all of whom made Wesley Woods her joyful home for more than 21 years. A memorial service will be held later, when such gatherings are safe. If you wish to donate in her memory, please consider a donation to Wesley Woods Foundation, 1817 Clifton Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30329; or Embry Hills United Methodist Church, 3304 Hendersonville Rd, Atlanta, GA 30341.
