Martha Plant

Martha Lou Hood Plant, 72, of Atlanta, loving wife and mother, passed away November 16, 2016. Born in Fontana Dam, NC, October 18, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Love Stewart "L.S." and Rubye S. Hood.

As a young child her and her family moved to Leesburg, FL, where she graduated from Leesburg High School. In 1961 she made her debut at the Poinsettia Ball Club in Leesburg, Florida. After graduating high school she moved to Atlanta, GA, where she graduated from Henry Grady Hospital Nursing School and worked for Dr. Napier Burson as an RN. On November 30, 1968, she married the love of her life, John H. Plant, Sr. Martha thoroughly enjoyed entertaining and cooking wonderful meals for family and friends. She was a member of Briarlake Baptist Church and a member of Mary Wood's Co-ed Sunday School Class. Martha was best known for her larger than life personality, quick wit, cooking and decorating skills and had an eye for color and design.

Martha is survived by her husband of 48 years, John H. Plant, Sr.; two children, Ashley Elizabeth Plant, and John H. Plant, Jr. and his wife, Desirea; her favorite niece, Lisa Caldwell of Columbia, S.C.; and many more loving family and friends.

The family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 20, in the chapel of A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Hersh officiating. A graveside service will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Tucker, GA.
