Martha Roberts Hatcher of Decatur passed into eternity Friday, June 22, 2007. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Herschel F. Hatcher, Jr.; daughter, Lynn Totaro and son-in-Law, John; son, Herschel, III, and daughter-in-Law, Gail, and her two grandsons, Ivy and Branson, and by her beloved nieces and nephews. She was born in Monticello, GA in 1922 to Z.T. and Bessie Roberts. She was Valedictorian of her high school class and was invited to play piano on WSB's "School of the Air." Martha was President of the Baptist Student Union and Valedictorian lf her class at GSCW. She earned dual degrees in English and Math. She became a school teacher in Moultrie, Ga. where she met and married Herschel in 1945 (July would have been their 62nd annive sary). Martha was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She served as a Girl Scout Leader and was active in the dental auxiliary. From childhood on, she was a committed Christian. She and her husband were active members of North Decatur United Methodist for over 50 years where she served in a variety of leadership roles. "A saint who once walked this earth is now at home with her Heavenly Father." A celebration of her life will be held at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur on Tuesday, June 26, at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send contributions to the American Parkinson's Disease Association, P.O. Box 49416, Atlanta, GA 30359 or to North Decatur United Methodist Church, 1523 Church St., Decatur, GA 30033. Visitation will be at Turner's on Monday, June 25, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. A. S.
