Martin George Moeser, of Clarkston, GA, passed peacefully on May 18, 2010. He was a loving brother, cousin and friend to many. Long involved in social work in the Atlanta area, he touched the lives of countless individuals.
Martin was born in Long Island, New York on October 26, 1951 to the late George Adam Moeser and Dorothy Marjorie Roman. Martin received his Bachelors in Social Work from New York University, and his Masters in Social Work from Southern Connecticut State University. Since 1984, he has worked in human services with the homeless and other special needs populations. To put it in his own words, “I am driven by my belief that the conditions of our special needs populations are not a choice and that every person and every family deserves a place to call home."
A Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Martin joined Progressive Redevelopment, Inc. (PRI) corporate group in Decatur, Georgia in 1996 as its first credentialed social worker. In 1998 he became the Executive Director of The ROCK, the umbrella organization for an innovative 12 agency collaborative center assisting the homeless in downtown Atlanta. Martin went on to become the initial Executive Director of Project Community Connections, Inc. (PCCI). The Housing Placement Program that Martin coordinated for the organization is firmly established within the community, providing a “best practices” model that transitions formerly homeless individuals/families into permanent housing placements throughout the community. In 2009, Martin became the first Division Director of Special Needs Housing Services for SocialServe.com.
Outside of his professional life, Martin enjoyed the company of his countless friends and family. His contagious laughter and lust for life lifted the spirits of everyone he was in contact with. He spent many years in New York City, where he was active in theatre. Martin enjoyed the outdoors, time with his friends on Lake Oconee, singing in his church choir, as well as visiting family and friends in Florida, Connecticut and Martha’s Vineyard.
Martin leaves a brother George Moeser in New Haven CT, a half brother, Paul Moeser in Tamarac, FL, and several cousins in Florida, Connecticut and Massachusetts. He was pre-deceased by a younger brother Brian Moeser
A memorial service will take place in the Atrium Room of The Frazer Center, 1815 Ponce de Leon Ave NE, Atlanta at 6:30pm on Tuesday, June 1st. Donations can be made in Martin’s name to the United Way Regional Commission on Homelessness at unitedwayatlanta.org
