Marvin Pierce Brown , 87, of Decatur, Ga died November 20, 2014. He retired from IRS in 1990 after 19 years of service, was a member of NARFE Dunwoody Chapter 2104 serving as Program Chairman 4 years, VP for 2 years and President for 1 year. He was an avid reader, a volunteer at Fernbank Museum of Natural History for 8 years and for a short time was a writer and editor for the Lithonia Journal. He was a graduate of Columbus High School and Harrison-Draughon School of Commerce and attended Georgia State University. He was baptized at age 12 in Columbus Baptist Church, taught boys intermediate Sunday School at Clairmont Baptist Church and a present member of Briarlake Baptist Church and Progressive Men's Bible Class. Born January 24, 1927 to Henry Pierce and Annie Maude Fowler Brown in Palmetto, GA , he was a polio victim at age 4 and spent a short time at Warm Springs during Franklin D. Roosevelt days. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers James Samuel Brown and Wilson Randolph Brown, sister Ruby Mae Brown Monsour, and half-sister Donia Brown Evans. He is survived by wife of 33 years Nancy Lee Harris Pitts Brown; brother James Louis (Beth) Brown of Bremen; sister-in-law Lorraine Brown of Porterdale; three stepchildren, Phyllis (Kent)Rowberry of Lilburn, Anita Pitts of Atlanta, and Michael (Jean) Pitts of Marietta; four step granddaughters, Andrea and Ashley Pitts of Marietta and Jillian and Amanda Rowberry of Lilburn; nieces: Karen (Jerry) Wheeler of Augusta, Louisa Brown of Dallas, GA, Jessica (Sebastian) Arellano of Horizon City, TX, and Melissa Ewing of Brewton, AL; nephews: Michael (Barbara) Brown of Mansfield, Louis (Wanda) Brown, Jr. of Charleston, SC, Heugene (Veronica) Brown and Johnny W. Brown, both of El Paso, TX. A.S.Turner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Service will be in Turner's chapel on November 22, 2014 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Larry Sullivan and Rev. Rodney Webb officiating. Burial in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to FODAC, 4900 Lewis Rd., Stone Mountain, GA 30088 or Progressive Men's Bible Class, c/o Briarlake Baptist Church, 3715 Lavista Road, Decatur, GA 30033.
