Marvin Pitts

July 31, 1927 — September 29, 2009

Mr. Marvin Pitts, 82, of Stone Mountain, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2009, after fighting a courageous 10 year battle with cancer.  He was a graduate of Georgia State University and a U. S. Army veteran.  Mr. Pitts was a charter member of Avondale First Baptist Church and was a member of the Pythagoras #041 Masonic Lodge for 50 years.  He retired from O’Neal Steel, Inc, after many years of service.  Mr. Pitts is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Barbara Ann Franklin.  He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Ann Pitts; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Doug Carter of Covington; sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Sandy Pitts of Covington, Jeff and Faye Pitts of Monroe, and David Pitts of Atlanta; grandchildren, Shanna Irving and her husband Michael of Marietta, Megan Carter of Clearwater, FL; and a great grandson on the way; several step great agrandchildren; and brother John Mell Pitts of Elberton. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 2nd at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons with Dr. Truett Gannon officiating. Interment Tignall Cemetery, Tignall, GA.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 56566, Atlanta, GA  30343 or a charity of your choice.  The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. at A. S. Turner & Sons.
