Mary Alverta “Bertie” Bond, 77, of Decatur, Ga., died Saturday, Oct. 31. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, in Gaines Chapel of Presser Hall on the campus of Agnes Scott College. A reception will follow in the Katharine Woltz Reception Room of Rebekah Scott Hall. A Virginia native, Ms. Bond graduated from Agnes Scott in 1953. She began working in the Office of the President at the college in 1960. Upon her retirement in 1994 she was named administrative assistant to the president emerita and secretary emerita of the Board of Trustees. She worked with four of the college’s eight presidents: Wallace M. Alston, Marvin B. Perry Jr., Ruth Schmidt and interim president, Sally Mahoney. In 1998, the college’s Alumnae Association recognized her with its Outstanding Alumnae Award for Service to the College. A member of Decatur Presbyterian Church, Ms. Bond is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Bond Boozer, a 1957 graduate of Agnes Scott, and brother-in-law, Dr. Jeffress Hannings Boozer, of Charlottesville, Va.; four nieces: Jennifer Boozer Pritchett of Louisville, Ky., Elizabeth Boozer Castro, Mary Rebecca Boozer Agee, both of Charlottesville, Va., and Laura Boozer Fawcett of Richmond, Va.; one great-niece and three great-nephews. She is survived also by lifelong friend and colleague, Kate McKemie, professor emerita of physical education at Agnes Scott. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Agnes Scott College or Decatur Presbyterian Church.
