Mary Fickle, age 81, died Saturday, December 10, 2011, at Emory University Hospital with her family by her side, following complications from pneumonia. Mary, affectionately called Mary Ann, was born January 7, 1930, in Avondale Estates, Georgia, to the late Gertrude and Claude Turner. She graduated from Avondale High School class of 1948. On November 30, 1951, she was united in marriage to Winfield McClellan Fickle. Mary's career began by working for the Georgia Power Company and after she had children, Mary became a full-time homemaker and loving mother. Later in life, after her children were grown, her career included working for the Decatur YMCA as the Enrollment Coordinator until her retirement in 2003. Following retirement, Mary devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members. She also enjoyed gardening and the Atlanta Braves. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Winfield M. Fickle and her sister, Bappy Godfrey. Mary is survived by her sons Danny and David Fickle; daughter and son-in-law Lynn and Hal Kemp; grandsons, Daniel Fickle, Christopher Kemp and granddaughter Haley Kemp. Great-grandchildren, Ava and Lilith Fickle and her brothers Claude and Bill Turner plus many nieces and nephews. Per Mary Ann's wishes, a graveside service will be held Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at the Decatur Cemetery at 2:30 pm with Rev. Larry Burgess officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until 2:00 pm on Wednesday at A.S.Turner & Sons.
