Mary Ann Nuckols (née Carter)our beloved "Anma" passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on January 6, 2016 in Atlanta, GA. She was 90. Mrs. Nuckols was born on July 16, 1925 at Emory Hospital in Atlanta to her parents, Richard H. of Atlanta, GA and Mary Helen Carter (nee Varner) of Macland, GA. She was baptized in First Methodist Church in Decatur, GA in 1937 at the age of 12 with her father sponsoring her, and later joined Trinity Lutheran Church in Astoria, NY in 1943. She graduated from Bryant High School in Long Island City, NY. While living in New York City, she developed an affinity for Broadway Theater, participating in a choral group and many shows as a young adult. Mrs. Nuckols returned to Atlanta with her mother after the passing of her father in 1943. She married her sweetheart, Paul Nuckols, of Lexington, KY on February 1, 1964. They resided in Atlanta, GA where Paul worked as a salesman for US Steel, and Mary Ann was an executive secretary at the Chrysler Corporation. They were active and lifelong members of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod serving at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church and Lutheran Church of the Ascension, both in Atlanta, GA. Mary Ann was active in the choir and played piano for many worship services. They also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends, and especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Nuckols is survived by her loving husband, Paul Nuckols of Lexington, KY; her son, Chuck Clark of Macon, GA; her four grandchildren, Darren Clark of Gray, GA, Carol Clark of Macon, GA, Lori Simms of McDonough, GA, and Tyler Clark of Macon, GA, and 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Richard H. Carter, and sister-in-law Iva Loye Carter (née Lee) of Atlanta, GA.
There will be a viewing for Mrs. Nuckols on Sunday, January 10, 2016 from 2 to 5 pm at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home Decatur, GA., and a memorial service on Monday, January 11, 2016 at 10 am at Lutheran Church of the Ascension in Atlanta with a graveside service at 12 noon at Varner Crossing Cemetery 4075 Macland Road Powder Springs, GA 30127. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in the name of Mary Ann Nuckols to the Cancer Research Institute.
