Mary Ann Gerrells Palmer, 96, of Decatur, GA, passed away on Wednesday December 15, 2021. She was born in White County, Cleveland, GA, to the late William Sumter and Callie Allison Gerrells. Mary was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a long-time member of Ousley Methodist Church and later Avondale First Baptist Church in Avondale. She was a faithful servant at her churches and held numerous positions over the years such as a Preacher search committee member, finance committee, Golden Age Group (President) Out Reach Committee for Seniors Ester Class.
She worked at Decatur Federal Bank at Belvedere Plaza for 25 plus years in several positions, ultimately as Branch Manager until she retired. She achieved many honors during her tenure as outstanding employee and employee of the month often. She took her responsibilities at “her” bank very seriously.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Palmer and 13 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her two daughters, Pam Palmer Cato of Stone Mountain, and Paula Palmer Sprayberry and son-in-law Morris Brice Sprayberry, Jr. (Sonny) of Hiawassee. She has 9 grandchildren: Melissa and Scott Kirkham, Blake and Kamree Hudgins, David and Darlene Cato, Richard and Ashley Cato, Mack and Nuria Cato, Shea and Scott Smith, Mendy and Trent Halford, Allison and Shannon Cochran, and Brice and Brooke Sprayberry; 20 great-grandchildren: Layla Kirkham; Blakely, Brinlee, and Case Hudgins; Brinnly Parker; Alexis Cato; Kaitlyn and Tony Wallace; Zoe, Maci, and Nate Cato; Jan Cato; Carson, Ashton, and Peyton Smith; Emory and Preston Halford; Townes and Evie Cochran; and Drew and Ellison Sprayberry; and 1 great-great granddaughter Ellie.
The family will receive guest on Tuesday December 21st from 10:00 am to Noon at A.S. Turner’s Funeral Home, 2773 N. Decatur Road, Decatur, GA, 30033. Graveside services will be at 3:00 pm at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Dahlonega, GA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hebron Colony of Boone, NC, in honor of Wendell Palmer or to a charity of your choice.
