Janet Beyer

Mary Janet Beyer, 70, of Lilburn, GA, passed away March 28, 2025, with her twin sister Jeanne by her side. She was born in Columbia, SC, moved to Georgia at a young age, and graduated Walker High School in 1973, having been a member of Jr. Civitan, FCA, Young Life, and on the Honor Roll. She attended the University of Georgia and held her Master of Education (MEd) in Health and Physical Education/Fitness. She was an elite athlete who excelled in fast pitch softball in her youth, basketball and tennis in high school and college. She was an educator with the DeKalb County School System, teaching and coaching at Walker High School and Stone Mountain High School before transitioning into Adapted PE. She volunteered for Special Olympics, and retired after 33 years. Janet took an interest in photography, mastering her technique to become a highly gifted photographer and artist. She traveled the US, Europe and the Caribbean documenting the marvels she saw and experienced. She had an extensive camera collection, which will be on exhibit at the Camera Museum in McDonough, GA soon. One of her dearest friends says, "Janet Beyer walked gently the earth with loving kindness and consideration of others. But perhaps what stands out most is her loyalty and love for her family." Janet's dedication and love for family was unfathomable. It never wavered. Family included her beloved dogs through the years. She loved gardening and filled her landscaping with flowering trees, beautiful plants and flowers, giving her dogs a marvelous place to run. She loved the works of Henry David Thoreau, and he quoted, "It is the beauty within us that makes it possible for us to recognize the beauty around us. The question is not what you look at but what you see." She was preceded in death by her father Robert O. Beyer, mother Mary Ann Beyer, sister Jo Ann Beyer and is survived by her sister Jeanne Beyer of Lilburn, GA. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of A.S. Turner & Sons, Decatur, GA, on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Special Olympics. Reception will be held following service.
