Mary Elizabeth Beagle

Mary Elizabeth Beagle passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Bentley Square. She was born November 3, 1923 in Lake Charles to Harlie Edwin and Hattie Dezendoef Beagle. Her family moved to Alexandria in 1925. Mary Elizabeth was a graduate of Bolton High School and a 1944 graduate of Louisiana Tech with a Batchelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, Magna Cum Laude. She was a charter member of Tech's Alpha Lambda chapter of Phi Mu Fraternity and a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and Tech's Blue Jackets. She was also listed in the 1944-1945 edition of Who's Who in American Universities and Colleges.
She retired from South Central Bell with 35 years of service, being employed in Alexandria for 30 years and the remainder of the time in Metairie and New Orleans. After retiring she made her home in Alexandria. In retirement one of her greatest interest was genealogy, having researched her maternal family members to the eighteenth century in Natchitoches. She was an avid reader and especially loved working in her yard. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Harlie L. Beagle, George Calvin Beagle and her nephew, Thomas David Beagle. She is survived by her nephew, William Michael Beagle, and his wife, Chris of Atlanta, GA; Tom's wife, Pat Beagle of Lilburn, GA; great nieces, Anna Beagle, of Johnson City, TN, Katie Beagle, Halley Beagle and great nephew, Dylan Beagle all of the Atlanta area. A life member of First United Methodist Church in Alexandria, her services will be held in Crowell Chapel at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 14, 2013. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the youth ministries of First United Methodist Church, 2727 Jackson Street Alexandria, LA 71301. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church. A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory, Decatur, GA.
