Mary Carmichael "Mike" Faulkner passed away at Hospice Atlanta on Monday March 7, 2016. Mary was born in Leslie, SC, the daughter of Oliver and Mamie McGill Carmichael, the middle of five children. Mary supported herself through Erskine College, relying on multiple scholarships, graduating with a degree in chemistry. At the age of 21, Mary came to Atlanta alone to attend a training program at Piedmont Hospital where she eventually became the head laboratory technologist. Mary met the love of her life, Ken Faulkner, on a blind date, chaperoned, of course. They were happily married for 59 years until Ken's passing in 2005. After marrying Ken, Mary continued working at Piedmont, supporting the family while Ken started a successful agricultural commodities business in which later Mary partnered and worked with Ken. Mary and Ken were active, faithful members of two churches to which they belonged. First, at the First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church where Mary taught children's Sunday School classes and where they made lifelong friends, then at Clairmont Presbyterian Church where she and Ken enjoyed volunteering in many of the church's outreach programs and were active members of the Progressive Sunday School Class. World travelers, they especially enjoyed their trips with the Ga Tech Alumni Association. Mary was a sports fan and loved to attend and later watch on TV the Yellow Jackets and Braves Games. Mary and Ken, friends and family made wonderful memories spending time together on houseboats on Lake Lanier then Lake Hartwell where the family still loves to gather at the family lake house. Mary is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Susan and Rick Adle and Rebecca and Scott Bracewell. She was especially proud of her four grandsons, their families and their accomplishments: Travis and Sarah Adle, Finley, June and Cora; Brian and Lydia Adle; Matt and Jessie Bracewell, Margaret; and Robbie and Chrissy Bracewell, Woody. Mary is survived by her brother and his wife, Tom and Imogene Carmichael of Matthews, NC. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Faulkner Fund at Clairmont Presbyterian Church or to Mission Haven, 235 Inman Drive, Decatur, GA 30030. Interment will take place at Floral Hills Memory Garden at 10:00am on Thursday March, 10th followed by a memorial service at Clairmont Presbyterian Church at 11:00 am.
