Betty was born January 19, 1925 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She graduated from Central High in Chattanooga and often shared fond memories of growing up around her father’s Chattanooga dairy. In 1984, Betty and Woody moved to Cartersville, Georgia. After his death in 1986, Betty remained in Cartersville until she moved to Decatur, Georgia in 1994, where she began many years of treasured time with all of her family, new friendships, church life and volunteer work at Decatur First United Methodist Church. Betty also served as a dedicated volunteer at the United Methodist Children’s Home in Decatur, where she enjoyed working weekly with others to prepare for their fundraising flea markets. She was known as Granny to many and will be remembered not only for the most delicious homemade cookies and pimento cheese that she shared with all, but also for her caring, nurturing presence to everyone as she shared her love, time, talents, friendship, and many welcoming smiles.
