Mary Elizabeth Manley

June 23, 1919 — March 18, 2013

Mrs. Manley was a much beloved mother, grandmother, and sister who was dedicated to her family. Her talents as a seamstress and excellent southern cook were legion. She was active in her church, Snellville United Methodist. Over the years, she sang in church choirs and served as a Sunday School teacher. Also active in various communities in which she lived, she served as a Cub Scout den leader, hospital volunteer, and, in recent years, served on the resident board of Southern Plantation where she lived. Her value for education was evident during her service as PTA president, substitute teacher, and employee of the Georgia State Department of Education from 1964-1985. Elizabeth Manley had a contagious laugh, sharp wit, keen political sense and loving heart. She genuinely cared for people, listened intently to others and provided insightful feedback in conversation. Her wisdom stuck with people and guided their lives. She always spoke the truth, whether it was about how much she loved her family or how disappointed she was with political problems. Sitting beside her, a person felt a warm connection as she grabbed a hand and held it tight. No matter what struggles she faced, she always focused on the positive and always said how blessed she was in life. Adversity was no match for her, and she empowered family members with her courageous spirit. A non-judgmental person, she was guided by love and despised greed. Far from a prude, she did not take life too seriously, and would laugh heartily at herself and could take a joke. She will be remembered for countless great qualities, among them strength, humor, and integrity.
