Funeral services for Mary H. Golding, 94, a lifelong resident of Decatur will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 9, 2017 at A.S. Turner & Sons Chapel, Decatur GA. Burial will be at Decatur Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2017 at A.S. Turner & Sons, 2773 North Decatur Road, Decatur GA.
Mrs. Golding passed away peacefully Monday, September 4, 2017 at Halcyon Hospice in Sandy Springs GA. Mary H. Golding was born August 23, 1923 in Atlanta GA, the daughter of James Thomas Hargrove and Nancy Ethel Hargrove. She was united in marriage to Melvin Earnest Golding on March 23, 1952 in Decatur, GA. They were married for 60 wonderful years. He preceded her in death June 21, 2012.
Mary was a wonderful and loving mother, aunt, great aunt, mother in law, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was fiercely devoted to her family, and worked tirelessly in support of all her children, their children and their children’s children. Mrs. Golding also attended Atlanta Technical College and obtained certification as a seamstress, after which she helped manage sewing operations for a ballroom gown designer. She also worked on behalf of her community as a volunteer with the Decatur Cooperative Ministries food bank for a number of years, performed charitable work with the Decatur Lions Club, and in acted as an officer of the Westchester Garden Club. Mary was also a woman of great faith and was a long-time member of Decatur First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Wayne and Diane Sargent, Gary and Mary Jane Pinson, Ken and Suzy Johnson, and Tom and Robin Golding; by her 16 grandchildren: Lyn Brown, Richard Gammon, Donna Gammon, Matt Gammon, Kenny Johnson, Brandon Johnson, Charles Moore, Kyle Johnson, Andrew Johnson, James Hawthorne, Harrison Hawthorne, Mary Blake Hawthorne, Rebecca Gayle, Elizabeth Golding, Megan McLaughlin, and Elana Golding; and by her 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Melvin Earnest Golding III in 1997; a brother, James Thomas Hargrove Jr.; and a sister, Flora Conover.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the United Methodist Women @ Decatur First United Methodist Church, 300 East Ponce de Leon Avenue, Decatur GA 30030. A. S. Turner & Sons Decatur.
