Mary Frances Mixon Fite

May 1, 1938 - February 22, 2025

Mary was born and raised in Augusta, Georgia, as part of a blended family. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, John Donald Fite, MD of 63 years, and her parents, Flossie Mae DeBow Jeffers Mixon Sale and Ernest Marion Mixon, Sr. Her brothers and sisters, William Turby Jeffers, Jr., (Louise), Alma Jeffers Maltby Cole LaBarbara, Ernest Marion Mixon, Jr., James Winnon Mixon (Jackie), Sara Mixon Hale (Jim) and Frank Hampton Mixon. She is survived by her children Karen Fite Mathews and Carl Dietrick Fite. Her nieces and nephews, Joan Jeffers Brumback (Augusta, GA), Marty Maltby NC) , Kimberly Mixon (Augusta, GA), Grant Mixon, Kathy Hale Serna (Stockton, CA), and James P. Hale, Jr. (Stockton, CA).

She attended Tubman Middle School, graduating from Richmond Academy (Class, 58). She met her husband Donald at Woodlawn Ave Baptist church where he attended during his medical training at MCG. She obtained her RN from Barrett School of Nursing, Augusta, before joining her husband stationed in Pensacola with the Navy. After the Navy, the little family moved back to Avondale Estates, Georgia for her J. Donald to practice ophthalmology. They joined Avondale First Baptist church attending there for more than 55 years. Mary's last position was as the church librarian. She loved her community and was an active member of Avon Garden Club for more than 40 years holding various officer positions. Many times, she could be found working in her yard puttering with her flowers or finding ways to attract the birds. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to The Ruby and Clifton Fite Scholarship fund with Berry College, Georgia.

A graveside service is scheduled on March 1 at 1:00 PM, at Westover Cemetery, Augusta, Georgia.
