Mrs. Hemphill was an accomplished violinist and played in the early days of the Atlanta symphony. She was a graudate of Erskine College in South Carolina. She taught English and music in both Powder Springs and North Fulton High School, where she developed their first string ensemble and music therory programs. She was a member of Westminister Presbyterian church. She led numerous women's Bible Studies and prayer groups. She is survived by her husband, Julian Moffatt Hemphill od Decatur; daughters, Katharine Hemphill of Flowery Branch, Julie (Doug) Hughes of Pittsburgh, PA; and grandchildren, Benjie, Mandy, Dan, Theo, Melodie, and Jeanne. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. at Westminister Presbyterian Church, Rev. Chuck Frost and Rev. David Seifried officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
