Mary Frances Simpson Allgood, formerly of Tucker, GA, passed away on June 1, 2010. Mary was born in Clarkston, GA on August 31, 1923, to Lula Weems and Homer Andrew Simpson. The youngest of 7 siblings, she was the pride and joy of her brothers and sisters. She was a graduate of Avondale High, where she was on the basketball team, then graduated from business school. Mary enjoyed a varied work career including being a professional model, working for the IRS, and serving her country during World War II as a civil servant in Panama. As childhood neighbors in the Scottdale community, both Allgood and Simpson families were lifelong companions and friends. Mary married Conrad L. Allgood, Jr., on June 30, 1948. Sadly, Conrad preceded her in death on July 25, 2007. As a devoted couple, their life adventure included not only raising a family, but travel to 4 continents and all 50 states. The greatest joy of Mary's life was her family. She raised her four children to honor others, always emphasizing the importance of the Golden Rule. Mary was baptized as a young girl and always treasured her relationship with her Savior, Jesus Christ. She is celebrating in Heaven today. Mary’s spirit will live on through her children, Deborah Allgood of Snellville, Marilyn Allgood of Stone Mountain, Cla and Janet Allgood of Cumming, and Diane and Vandy Davis of Thomasville; grandchildren, Will and Jisun Riley, Lauren Riley, Derek Hughes, Kurt Hughes, Hailey Allgood, Erin Davis and Andrea Davis; sister Margaret Simpson Mann; sisters-in-law, Dr. Allene Allgood Denton, Marjorie Allgood Campbell, and Alice Muschler Allgood; numerous nieces and nephews; special friend and caregiver Yolette Joubert, and many friends at Delmar Gardens. She was preceded in death by her sisters Lucile Simpson Akin, Alma Simpson Akin; brothers, Fuller Simpson, Russell Simpson, and James Milton Simpson and countless other beloved family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P. M. Thursday, June 3 in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons, Decatur. Interment to follow at MelwoodCemetery. The family received friends Wednesday, June 2, 6 P.M. – 8 P.M. at A. S. Turner & Sons.
