Mary Lois Hastings

July 5, 1920 — March 6, 2017

Mary Lois Hastings passed away peacefully on March 6th, 2017 under the loving care of hospice. She was born July 5th, 1920 in Decatur, GA. She was educated in Decatur schools, graduating from Decatur Girls High. She continued her education at Georgia State University and Draughan's Business College in Atlanta, GA. Mary Lois Riley was married to Stanley Mitchell Hastings on May 22nd, 1943. She was a career woman first, employed by Georgia Power Company for over ten years. Later she happily became a full-time wife and mother. Stanley and she were the parents of two children, Mark Mitchell Hastings and Jill Hastings Thompson. With her children, Mary Lois was an active member in the Decatur School's PTA, a Girl Scout Leader, and Cub Scout Den Mother. She especially enjoyed her time as a member of the DeKalb County Junior League. Mary Lois was a lifelong and third generation member of Decatur First United Methodist Church. Her Grandfather's name, Wesley Hamilton Weekes, is on the cornerstone of the old church, now the chapel. She is a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women. Mary Lois' Christian faith sustained her throughout her life.

Mary Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley M Hastings.

She is survived by her son, Mark; daughter, Jill; her grandchildren, Jill Marie Letts Martin, Hamilton Letts, and Daniel Thompson; sister, Kitty Mozley and her husband, Bob, and their daughter, Karyn Mozley Whigham; niece, Jan Hastings Krafka and her husband, John; nephew, Kyle Krafka and his wife, Kathleen; and niece, Kaley Krafka.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 10th at 10:30 a.m. at Decatur First United Methodist Church with Dr. David Jones officiating.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to Decatur First UMC, 300 E. Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur, GA, 30030.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 9th from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home.
