Mary Pappas Vinson

July 20, 1920 — February 3, 2008

Mary Pappas Vinson, age 87, passed quietly on February 3, 2008.  Born in Savannah, GA, she lived most of her life in Atlanta. She was predeceased by her husband of 39 years, William C. Vinson. With her husband, Mary Vinson owned and operated Elna Sewing Centers of GA for over 20 years. A magnificent seamstress, she inspired many to sew. In addition to her sewing talent she excelled at playing bridge. Many family and friends remember her for her singular wit and her ability to light up a room with her humor. Upon retirement, she explored her artistic talent in oil painting, and left many originals with her loved ones.  She was a member of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of The Annunciation. She sang with the choir, helped sew costumes for the Greek Festival and on many occasions could be seen working at the Greek Festival along with family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Vinson Hall of Buford, GA; her 2 grandsons, Steven A. Hall and John M. Hall; her sister, Sophie Franks and her sister-in-law, Katie Pappas, both of Savannah, GA; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 6th at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral at 11 a.m., Father George Alexson officiating. Graveside service will follow in Eternal Hills Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2500 Clairmont Rd., Atlanta, GA 30329. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at A. S. Turner & Sons
