Mary Pittman Laird of Montgomery, Alabama and currently of Atlanta, Georgia died on August 10, 2010. Mrs. Laird was born July 5, 1910 in Camp Hill, Alabama. Mrs. Laird received a bachelor’s degree from Huntingdon College and a Masters from Peabody College, Vanderbilt University. She retired from teaching in the Alabama School Systems with over thirty years of teaching experience. The majority of her teaching career was in Childersburg, Alabama at Childersburg High School where she taught 12th grade English and sponsored the yearbook, Tiger Tracks. The yearbook was dedicated to her in 1957. After retiring, Mrs. Laird lived with her sister in Montgomery, AL. They enjoyed many years together playing bridge, visiting with friends and Mrs. Laird’s favorite past time-reading and gardening. During her life, she spent many hours making beautiful dresses, costumes, doll dresses and a dollhouse for her beloved granddaughters. Mrs. Laird lived in Alabama for 95 years until she moved to Georgia to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Mrs. Laird was of the Baptist faith and taught Sunday School for numerous years at the First Baptist Church in Childersburg. Currently, she was a member of the First Baptist Church, Decatur, Georgia. Mrs. Laird recently celebrated her 100th birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank H. Laird, her parents Walter and Lula Flurry Pittman, and her sister Louise Pittman. She is survived by her daughter Mary Louise Whitlow and her husband Phil Whitlow of Stone Mountain; her son Frank Laird of Montgomery, Alabama; two granddaughters Susan Malemezian and her husband Brad Malemezian of Atlanta and Kathy Whitlow of Denver, Colorado and two great grandsons Tyler and Chase Malemezian of Atlanta. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 13th at 11 A.M. in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons. Interment will be at Green Hill Memorial Park in Childersburg, AL, Saturday, at 11:00 A.M. (CDT). The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
