Mary Shannon Rowan, 92, of Atlanta, passed away October 5, 2019.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday October 8 at A.S. Turner Funeral home from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at 2:00 pm at A.S. Turner Funeral Home. Reverend Larry Burgess will be officiating.
Mary was born in Newton, Mississippi, April 4, 1927. She graduated from Denver University with a degree in elementary education. Later, she taught at Medlock Elementary School and Hawthorne Elementary, where she retired in 1988.
With retirement came the grandchildren, t ball, football, soccer, hockey, and swimming. She also traveled extensively going to Alaska several times, Europe, Hawaii, and many Florida trips. Weekends in the mountains of North Georgia. Beach trips…
She was an exceptional cook. She worked all day and came home to prepare a full meal. Meat two vegies, salad, and of course dessert. Made the best Country Fried Steak, Fried Chicken, Mac and Cheese, Squash Casserole, chocolate pie with meringue, banana pudding and, Boston Cream Pie.
She was the neighborhood tutor. She taught us to drive a stick shift.
She was a member of Clairmont Hills Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the WMU. She loved her church and her church family very much.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Ken Parker of Cartersville; son, David L. Rowan of Atlanta. Two grandchildren, Taylor Parker and Wife Brooklynn of Covington, and Matt Parker of Covington. Two great-grandchildren, Ava and Owen
