Mary Sharon Johnson

November 30, 1950 — February 10, 2025

Mary Sharon O'Brien Johnson (Sharon) died peacefully at the King's Bridge Retirement Community in Atlanta, Georgia on February 10, 2025, at the age of 74 after a brief battle with cancer.

Sharon is survived by her husband, David; her two sons, Terry (and Jenni) Johnson and Tim (and Emily) Johnson; her seven grandchildren (Ryan, Sam, Max, Luke, Vance, Kate, and Bobby); and her brothers, Kevin (and Janet) O'Brien and George (and Bonnie) O'Brien. Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, George and Kathleen O'Brien, and her brother, Patrick O'Brien.

Sharon was born on November 30, 1950, in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. When she was young, she moved to Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and later to Naperville, Illinois. She attended Immaculata College and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1972.

While she was at the University of Illinois, she met her future husband, as her roommate at the University of Illinois married his roommate at the University of Notre Dame. A few years after they were married, they moved to Atlanta, Georgia with their two young sons, where she lived the rest of her life.

Sharon spent her life creating a loving and supportive home for her husband and her two boys. She was generous with her time, her love, and her compliments. She always maintained a positive attitude. She was able to focus on the big picture, and not worry about the little things. A former lifeguard and youth swim coach she loved swimming, time at the beach, and water aerobics.

She worked for 31 years at the Internal Revenue Service, where she met many wonderful friends. In her retirement, she loved spending time with all of her grandchildren. She was a long-time parishioner at Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 16th from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at A. S. Turner & Sons funeral home in Decatur.

A funeral Mass is scheduled for Monday, February 17, 2025, at 11:00 am at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Atlanta, Georgia. A private internment service will be held for immediate family members at the Honey Creek Woodlands cemetery in Conyers.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Personal Care, Inc. and the staff at King's Bridge for their loving care and support.
