Mrs. Mary Starr Elliott Gardner, 99, of San Antonio, formerly of Decatur, died Sunday, July 19, 2009. She was a member of Decatur First United Methodist Church since 1942 and a member of the Fellowship Sunday School class. Mrs. Gardner was preceded in death by her husband, Davis H. (Bill) Gardner. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Elliott M. and Mary Catherine Gardner of San Antonio, TX; daughter, Willene Schmitt of Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren, John D. and Mary Gardner, Julie Ann and David Smith, all of San Antonio, TX; great grandsons, Andrew, Dustin, John Michael and Hayden Elliott; great granddaughter, Hannah Starr; nieces, Barbara Hutcheson, Beverly Lawrence, Elizabeth Palmer; and nephews, Tom Duke and Archie Kemp. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 23, Bishop L Bevel Jones officiating. The Fellowship Sunday School class will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 22 at A. S. Turner & Sons.
