Mary T. Burch

Betty Tomberlin Burch, 92, passed away on January 8, 2015. Betty spent the last three years with her son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Anita Burch of Alpharetta, GA. She had spent most of her later life in DeKalb County and briefly lived at Merrill Gardens in Roswell, GA. She was born the Daughter of Bessie and W. A. Tombelin in Fitzgerald, GA. She also lived in Albany and LaGrange and later moved to Atlanta in 1964. Betty is preceded in death by her parents her brothers, Carl and Billy, and the absolute love of her life and husband of 69 years, Bill (William L.) Burch. Betty is survived by her two sons and daughters-in law, Craig and Anita Burch of Alpharetta, GA and Gary and Glenda Burch of Cypress, CA; six grandchildren; Geoffrey (Christina) Burch, Pace Burch, Cam (Nicole) Perdue, Kevin Perdue, Emily (Edwin) Cabrera and Lauren Perdue; great granddaughter, Hadley. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Shirley Mills of Bethel Park, PA; nephew, Carl Tomberlin and her beloved pet, Molly. A special thanks to Irene Kamua, her caretaker. Betty retired from the Social Security Administration after 30 years at the age of 55. She was the recipient of several national awards and accolades for her service while working there. Not content with retirement, Betty went back to work for Georgia Power for an additional 10 years. She was an active member at Briarcliff Baptist Church and volunteered at the Church's Clothes Closet. She also volunteered at King's Bridge Retirement Community. Her family was extremely blessed to have her as a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt for 92 wonderful years. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Fred Plate officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Briarcliff Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
