Matthew Brian Wallace

Matthew Brian Wallace passed away August 19, 2014. He is the son of Milton (Buck) and Louise Wallace. Matt graduated from Shamrock High School and enlisted into the Army Reserves with basic training at Fort Hood, Texas. After basic training he was assigned to a Medical Evacuation Helicopter Unit at Dobbins Air Force Base. He then went to Fort Rucker, Alabama for helicopter training where he graduated with honors and was commissioned a Warrant Officer in the U.S. Army. He then went to Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona, Florida where he graduated with honors. At the same time he attended college, he was a pilot with a Medical Evacuation Unit in Orlando, Florida. Matt was affiliated with WSB-TV news flying their news helicopter. Matt's Reserve Unit was called to active duty to serve in the first Gulf War. Subsequently, Matt was recalled to active duty to serve his second tour of duty in the Iraq War. Upon returning from the war in Iraq, Matt retired after twenty-one years of service as a CWO3. Matt was affiliated as a helicopter pilot with Rescue Air One for six years. His present job was with Rotorwork, LLC as Pilot and Director of Operations. Matt is survived by his wife, Martha Wallace; his parents; brothers, John and wife, Becky, Christopher and wife, Megan; nephew, Alexander McCarley Wallace (Mac). He is predeceased by brother, Michael Wallace; grandparents, John and Louise McCarley and Anon and Mary Wallace; uncle, Anon Wallace, Jr.; and aunt, Patricia Wallace Tidwell. Matt had a passion for children and he granted very many bucket list wishes to fly in a helicopter. Some were patients at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Matt was cremated and his ashes will be scattered at his beloved Florida home. A memorial service will be held at Shallowford Presbyterian Church, 2375 Shallowford Road, NE Atlanta, GA 30345 on Monday, August 25 at 2:00pm with Reverend Chris Henry officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Checks should be made payable to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, include on the memo: for Matt Wallace.
