Maurine Goodman age 55 of Decatur GA passed away on Monday November 26, 2012. She was born in New Orleans, and received a Bachelor degree from Louisiana State University and two Master degrees from LSU and Tulane University. She was a health scientist at the Centers for Disease Control, where she created and administered the scientific review panels for grant applications submitted to CDC. Previously she was on the faculty of the School of Public Health at Tulane University, where she taught and administered the internship program for Tulane students with the Louisiana Department of Public Health. She enjoyed serving as mentor to many students. Her book Race and Research: Perspectives on Minority Participation in Health Studies was co-authored with Bettina Beech. Maurine was loved and admired by many friends, co-workers and family members. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her inspirational spirit. It was so characteristic of her, that during a long and courageous battle with cancer, she used her singing and original lyrics spoofing the rigors of cancer to bring laughter and joy to her fellow patients at cancer treatment centers. She lived with her husband, Alan L. Goodman in Decatur and previously in New Orleans. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Valerie Lewis and her father, Gary Fontenot. She is survived by her son. Christopher Lewis, her mother, Stephanie Fontenot, her brother, Stephan Fontenot, and her sister, Melissa Fontenot.
