Maxine Hogue

Maxine Otey Hogue, 91, of Decatur, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at her home. A native of Arkansas, she was born in Knobe1 and grew up in Harrisburg. After marrying in 1936, she lived in Little Rock, AR, Portland, OR, Bakersfield, CA, and for over 40 years in Gladstone and Lawson, MO. In 2000, she moved to Decatur to be closer to her family in Atlanta. She worked for the Social Security Administration in Kansas City and was involved in the American Business Women's Association. In her retirement, she traveled to Hawaii, Mexico, Great Britain, the Holy Land, Greece, France, the Caribbean, and throughout the US. She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed needlework, quilting, piano playing, and was an avid gardener, growing flowers and sharing their beauty widely with her church and friends. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. L. Lynn and Dr. Carol Hogue of Atlanta; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Rowland ("Lizzie") Hogue; and a nephew, Joe Verser of Jonesboro, AR. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benton Hogue; her sister, Geraldine Verser, and her parents, Vol and Adeline Connelly Otey of Harrisburg, AR. A memorial service will be at Decatur Presbyterian Church, Monday, July 12, at 3:00 pm, with the Rev. Dr. Jasper Keith, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Harrisburg, AR. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be given to Decatur Presbyterian Church, 205 Sycamore Street, Decatur, GA 30030 or Barbee Memorial Presbyterian Church, 501 Tiger Dr., Excelsior Springs, MO 64024.
