Maybelle Scoggins Payton-Maybelle Scoggins Payton, age 99, died at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Tucker, GA on Wednesday, December 14, 2005. Born July 7, 1906, Mrs. Payton lived many years in Clarkston, GA, and was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church. At 54 years of age she graduated from LPN Training from Smith-Hughes Evening School in Atlanta, and later that year took Disaster Training for Practical Nurses. Mrs. Payton worked as a private duty nurse, mostly at DeKalb Medical Center, until her retirement at age 68. Surviving are her daughter, Edna Payton Smith of Tucker, GA; grandchildren, Beverly Hall of Atlanta, GA, Phillip Hall and wife Debra of Rome, GA, Jan Honea Appling and husband Terry of Atlanta, GA, and Wanda Honea of Atlanta, GA; 7 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by sisters, Melba Scoggins Ewing of Lilburn, GA, and Alice Scoggins Shaw of Avondale Estates, GA, and by her son-in-law, M.C. Honea, Jr. of Atlanta, GA. She was predeceased by her husbands, Cholly Payton and Early Payton, daughters, Martha Hall McElmurray of Rome, GA, and Mary Payton Honea of Atlanta, GA; and granddaughter, Marsha Hall Dodson of Rome, GA. Visitation will be at A. S. Turner & Sons on Sunday, December 18, 2005 from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m., with the funeral service following at 3:00 p.m. Interment at Rehoboth Cemetery.
