McCoy Clempson ("Mack") Campbell III, retired banking executive who has held positions with major financial institutions in Georgia and Tennessee, February 26, 2011 in Decatur, Georgia. He was 92 years of age. Mr. Campbell came to Atlanta in 1950 from his home in Nashville, Tennessee, where he was employed by the Nashville Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, to head up the Personnel Department at First National Bank of Atlanta. He left that position in 1968 to join American National Bank and Trust Company (now SunTrust) in Chattanooga, Tennessee, as Senior Vice President, Human Resources Department, retiring in 1983. A native of Spring Hill, Tennessee, he grew up in nearby Nashville where he graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1940. There he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. Subsequently he graduated from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University. His education there led to a lifelong interest in teaching at the adult level, and he gained faculty membership as a faculty member in the specialized field of human resource management at a number of banking schools held during the summer months at Rutgers University, University of Wisconsin, Louisiana State University, Vanderbilt University, and the American Bankers' Association National Graduate School of Human Resources which named him its dean in 1987. In addition, he was nationally known as an after-dinner speaker whose serious messages were punctuated with humor. During World War II he served a 1942-1946 tour of duty as a lieutenant in anti-aircraft artillery.Mr. Campbell was a past president of the Georgia Personnel and Guidance Association, a former director and chairman of the Personnel Committee of National Association of Bank Auditors and Comptrollers (NABAC - now BAI, Bank Administration Institute.), and was prominently identified with a number of similar professional bodies. His deep interest and knowledge of literature and drama led to his numerous excursions into critical reviewing. For more than twenty years he was a contributing reviewer to the book section of the Chattanooga Times. He also was a movie reviewer on WDEF- TV in Chattanooga. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Josephine Campbell. He is survived by his daughters, Luci Newton, Rock Hill, SC, Laura & Sandy Peyton, Decatur, GA; grandchildren, Laura Peabody & Emily & Steve Johnson, Rock Hill, SC, Josie Peyton, Atlanta, GA; and 3 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Noon Saturday March 5, 2011 in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons. Rev. Harold Hoffman will officiate. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Metropolitan Hospice. The family will receive friends from 11:00AM till Noon Saturday March 5, 2011 at A. S. Turner & Sons.
